Description

The HIPS project deals with an innovative information service at Munich Airport, which is being developed jointly by Flughafen München GmbH and the Chair of Mobile and Distributed Systems.

As part of the first phase, a prototype was completed in October 2008 that enables travelers at the airport to plan a route through the airport by talking to an airport employee at specially installed video terminals. This route can then be followed, with the traveler receiving support at multiple display systems using an RFID card. The system was set up as a prototype in a test area at Munich Airport and evaluated in a large-scale user test. The technical implementation is based on classic RFID technology combined with video conferencing and indoor modeling and navigation.

The aim of the second phase, which is due to start soon, is to further develop core elements of the prototype. Further approaches need to be developed and evaluated, particularly in the area of modeling route graphs within buildings.
